Discover SilverBirch Agistment, a venture born from a love for horses and a desire to share our wonderful facilities in Chertsey, Mid Canterbury. We offer dedicated agistment services focused on providing bespoke care for your equine companions.
Our journey began with a passion
SilverBirch Agistment is proudly owned by Mark and Inez Waldron. Inez has been riding since she was a toddler, growing up she was a member of the Methven Pony Club where she regularly competed on her ponies, including at Springston Trophy at both Pre-Training and Training levels.
Horses are deeply rooted in the Waldron family legacy. Inez's great-great-grandfather imported an Arabian stallion and mare from Syria, arriving at Alford Forest on Christmas Day in 1905. Additionally, her great-uncle Andy's horse, "Royal Worthy," won the prestigious Auckland Trotting Cup in 1944. Mark's family also boasts a successful harness trainer.
As an adult, Inez enjoyed Show Jumping, Show Hunter and Eventing, competing to Training level on several different horses. She and her family have also ventured into breeding their own racehorses and crossbreds under the prefix "Medora". Notable successes include Medora Classic Touch, a skilled eventer and show jumper, and Medora St Martin, who has excelled in CTR and is now enjoying life on the hunt field. Currently, Medora's Ishtar serves as Inez's pleasure hack, also achieving success in the show hunter and jumping rings.
The Waldron family is now nurturing the next generation of equestrians, with their oldest child recently receiving her first pony.
The Farm
SilverBirch Agistment is situated on a 31-hectare farm, conveniently located along Rakaia Highway, just 11 km south of Rakaia. This enables us to grow our own feed, ensuring the highest quality for our livestock. Among our crops, we dedicate 2 hectares to lucerne, which we harvest into either conventional hay or baleage.
This ensures that we have complete control over the quality of our feed, guaranteeing that our animals receive only the best nutrition.
In addition to our horses, we also raise Angus breeding cows and calves, along with a flock of breeding ewes and fattening lambs.

SilverBirch Agistment is ideal for busy owners seeking peace of mind and convenience, or for horses needing a spelling period. We warmly welcome ridden horses! We have two 500-metre long farm lanes and a variety of paddocks for your riding pleasure. Plus, Rakaia Pony Club grounds are available for hire, just a short 15-minute drive away. We specialise in caring for horses and ponies, offering a safe, nurturing environment where their well-being is our top priority. Let us provide the dedicated care your equine companions deserve.
